Process To Start A Local Chapter
- Request for assistance in starting a local chapter
- Members of the KYSAFF Board with support from the statewide coordinator and the project facilitators will meet with the interested party to discuss the principles of KYSAFF, the intent of the local chapter and the application process to become a formal chapter
Principles
- Self-advocates are actively involved in all decisions for the group
- Self-advocates are involved in building the agenda for the meetings
- Self-advocates are involved in leading the meetings
- The meetings are about and for self-advocates, not agencies
- The role of the advisor or support staff is to provide support, create a non-threatening environment and inspire learning
- Rights of people with disabilities should be a continuous discussion
- The group should hold regular meetings at times and in locations most convenient to self-advocates
Role of Agencies and Support People in Supporting Self-Advocacy
- Provide support, donąt make decisions
- Help self-advocates learn, understand and become more independent
- Agencies should engage in activities that support and assist self-advocates not to benefit the agency
Local Chapter Responsibilities
- Hold regular meetings
- Keep minutes or notes of each meeting
- Appoint Officers
- Maintain regular communication with KYSAFF Statewide Coordinator and Board members
- Provide financial accounting to the KYSAFF Board every quarter
- Complete report annually
- Keep KYSAFF membership current
Revocation of KYSAFF Local Chapter Status
KYSAFF reserves the right to revoke local chapter status at any time if the local chapter does not meet its responsibilities and responsibilities.

KYSAFF will work with the Local Chapter to assist if the Local Chapter is having difficulty meeting its obligations or responsibilities.
